Hand made ceramic production means that each tile is unique. There is no repetition. From the the forming and polishing of a design’s details one can see small unique elements resulting from the brush of a wet sponge on we clay. Tiles are hand painted so that even the highest professionalism leaves slightly different intensities of color. Layers of glaze are applied by hand; at high temperature the glazes leak and create color, matte or a shiny cover. Layers of glaze mean that one tile can be fired in the furnace several times. That’s why hand made ceramic tiles will never be absolutely identical, like those produced by modern automated manufacturing techniques. Small differences in drawing lines or minimally different tones of glaze color occur between similar tiles. There is also the characteristic cracking (crazing) of the glaze – not flaws, but evidence of the most desired characteristics of traditional hand production.
All of our ceramics are produced from high quality German mixtures of faience clays and materials as also used in the manufacturing of the highest quality household sanitary fixtures. This allows us to product very delicate products, with thin walls and precise modeling, while maintaining high quality with every batch of raw material.
